World Champion Reader
Belt and Buckle

MATERIALS: Construction or other paper on which to copy the belt buckle pattern to
produce 1 buckle per student.

1 per student: a strip cut lengthwise from tagboard 2 inches wide.
Crayons, markers and/or other decorating materials

DIRECTIONS:

Buckle --
Copy the belt buckle pattern onto the paper.  Cut the buckle pages into quarters and give one buckle to each student to cut out and color/decorate as desired.

Belt –
Give each student a strip of tag board.  Have the students draw a repeating math pattern down the middle of the strip and color the pattern.  The pattern shown used an ABC pattern of boot, gingerbread man, and cactus.  Add a row of  Xs along both edges as stitching.  Attach one end of the strip to the back of the buckle with tape or glue.  Wrap the strip around the student’s waist and secure the other end to the back of the buckle.  For easy on and off, you can secure one end of the belt to the buckle with a peel-and-stick Velcro tab.
